Farm Credit of Southern Colorado (FCSC) is seeking a Human Resources Intern to join our team for the Summer 2025 semester.  The chosen candidate will receive an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and experience in the field through hands-on activities, coaching, and projects within the HR department.

This position is part-time, working approximately no more than 30 hours a week. Occasional travel may be required to sufficiently support other locations within territory.

Responsibilities:

Human Resources 

Will support functional HR areas, including but not limited to training & development, total rewards, employee relations, and HR operations, and talent acquisition through the following responsibilities:

  • Conducting regular audits of HR systems to ensure data accuracy and compliance with company policies and legal requirements
  • Handling employee relations matters and requests with the guidance of the HR team
  • Assisting HR team with onboarding new hires by collecting, organizing and filing necessary new hire paperwork
  • Helping to coordinate and execute employee events such as workshops, trainings, and employee engagement events
  • Providing administrative support to the recruitment team throughout the various stages of the recruitment process, as well as attending job fairs and recruitment events
  • Conducting research and providing recommendations on HR best practices
  • Assisting HR team with other various projects as needed
  • Lead and participate in HR initiatives within the FCSC Culture Club by:
  • Organizing various Culture Club sponsored events such as community service projects.
  • Administer the rewards and recognition platform
  • Conducting onboarding and offboarding of employees for culture initiatives

Data Security and Confidentiality 

  • Appropriately protects the confidentiality, security, and integrity of the Association, employees, borrowers, and other stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifying Characteristics:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in human resources, business management or another related field. Must be in good standing academically with a minimum 3.0 GPA and have a minimum of one semester remaining prior to receiving a bachelor’s degree.
  • Working knowledge of Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook sufficient to create, update and save a variety of documents.
  • General knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations
  • Skill in utilizing a systematic approach to problem solving
  • Teamwork capacity/ working effectively with others
  • Ability to work independently, learn new tasks/handle multiple tasks, solve problems, meet deadlines, and show strong self-motivation and initiative
  • Skill in oral and written communication, sufficient to exchange information effectively with peers, supervisor and management.
  • Skill in behaving in a manner consistent with the values of the organization
  • Skill in gathering, compiling and organizing information.
  • Skill in maintaining confidentiality with employee personal identifiable information.

Responsibilities:

Projects 

  • Facilitate the development of two key projects:  
  • Risk-Adjusted Return on Capital (RAROC) model 
  • Business intelligence software dashboards and reporting 
  • Develops RAROC model to be used to evaluate the profitability of loan originations and capital market participations by accounting for expected losses and income generated by capital, adjusted for associated risk 
  • Creates reporting that allows analysts to quickly assess from the RAROC model the profitability of new lending opportunities  
  • Learns business intelligence software platform to assist with transitioning legacy reporting, dashboards, and models 
  • Identifies opportunities for automation and continuous process improvement.  
  • Develops reporting that is easily scalable as the Association grows 
  • Determines appropriate reporting and analysis needed for management decision making 
  • Analyzes information and identifies anomalies, trends, and discrepancies in the reports to bring to management’s attention  
  • Documents processes and business requirements to ensure business outcomes are met 
  • Internship will culminate in a formal presentation of project findings, actions, and other relevant data 

Data Integrity 

  • Tracks data used in preparation of ongoing monitoring reports 
  • Ensures accuracy of the data used  
  • Alerts management of any discovered data errors 

Ad-Hoc Reporting 

  • With direction, will utilize provided data and past reporting to refresh and/or update a given report that may become a priority 
  • Designs and generates reports based upon findings 

Minimum Qualifying Characteristics:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Analytics or another related field. Must be in good standing academically with a minimum 3.0 GPA and have a minimum of one semester remaining prior to receiving a bachelor’s degree.
  • Preferred: Prior familiarity or experience in agribusiness and/or farming industry
  • Desire to learn about Farm Credit processes and software
  • Desire to gain working knowledge of agribusiness and farming industry
  • Desire to learn about relevant regulations
  • Desire to develop working knowledge of process improvement disciplines and processes
  • Desire to analyze information to formulate logical and objective conclusion
  • Desire to analyze, integrate, and document the business needs of multiple stakeholders
  • Desire to plan and coordinate multiple projects involving multiple stakeholders
  • Desire to research information to gain knowledge for application to business challenges
  • Skill in oral and written communication, sufficient to exchange information effectively with peers and supervisor

Internship Activities

Social opportunities:

Networking:

  • Career follow up with interns after internship is finished
  • Meeting with Farm Credit Leadership & Executives

Training material:

  • Shadowing other departments such as business development, credit, accounting, appraisal etc.

Cash Management

  • Accepts and processes loan payments via cash, drafts, wires or lockbox
  • Establishes authenticity and accuracy in daily work by:
    • Running and reviewing daily reports
    • Identifying and correcting any issues
    • Accurately filing daily work
    • Documenting all daily work as prescribed
  • Performs the Check21 process for the daily deposits.
  • Completes branch balancing by running reports and checking against processed transactions, works with the Accounting Department to resolve discrepancies.

Customer Service

  • Responds to customer inquiries and requests in a timely manner
  • Directs incoming call traffic as needed
  • Assists customers with routine Online Banking questions and enrollments, and recommends products and services that will benefit the customer
  • Orders drafts and credit cards as needed by working with service provider

Loan Post Closing

  • Onboards and books loan actions in system
  • Disburses funds for loan actions
  • Files UCC Liens with proper counties
  • Reviews loan documents against list of necessary documents and files loan documents electronically
  • Records legal documents
  • Compiles and transfers custody of loan packages to Collateral Custodian

Loan Maintenance

  • Works in cooperation with borrowers, agents and staff to monitor and maintain appropriate coverages and documentation on existing loans
